Honoring Our Vietnam-Era Veterans: A Long-Overdue Welcome Home
How Providence Insurance — The Reed Agency, Humana and VFW Post 4061 came together in Cañon City to thank and pin local Vietnam-era veterans.
On Saturday, March 29, 2025, we had the honor of co-hosting a Vietnam Era Veteran Welcome Home and Pinning Ceremony at the Cañon City VFW alongside Humana and VFW Post 4061.
Twenty-five veterans received their Vietnam Veteran lapel pins that day. Five family members accepted pins on behalf of loved ones who passed before they were ever recognized, and VFW members arranged to bring pins to ten nursing home residents who couldn't attend in person.
Why this mattered to us
Many Vietnam-era veterans came home to a divided country and never received the thank-you they deserved. Fremont County is full of these men and women — they are our clients, our neighbors and our families. Standing in that room while the Cañon City High School JROTC Color Guard retired the colors was a reminder of why we do community work at all.
Thank you to Humana, VFW Post 4061, the JROTC Color Guard and every family who came. And to every veteran: welcome home.
